Within minutes of the resort, there are two Provincial Parks with fantastic beaches.
Batchawana Bay Provincial Park boasts some of the warmest waters in Lake Superior, while
Pancake Bay Provincial Park overlooks the area where the Edmund Fitzgerald freighter went down.
Further north brings you to the Lake Superior Provincial Park, site of the Pictographs at Agawa
Bay. Numerous inland lakes and rivers are just waiting for you to dip your paddle or toss in your
lure. Kilometres of hiking trails, from easy to difficult, for young and young at heart, take you
to scenic vistas or woodland retreats. Guide books are provided at the Park offices and on the
Internet. The award winning interactive visitor's centre at the Lake Superior Provincial Park
gives a great overview of the flora and fauna of our area.
Many old mining and logging roads in the area are along streams and rivers giving you easy
accessibility to waterfalls, rapids and pools for fishing or just wetting your feet after an
afternoon hike or vigorous biking trek.

Night time brings dark skies filled with stars, planets and constellations. We have a south-east
exposure, which is perfect for watching the moon and planets rise over the distant hills while
you either can sit by your window or relax outside on a lounge chair in peaceful contemplation.
Don't forget to make a wish on a falling star! We try to practice a dark sky philosophy so that
our guests are able to appreciate the full beauty of all those stars and perhaps check out a few
satellites that go blinking through our night sky. Looking northward on August nights, you have
a great opportunity to view the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) as it fills the sky with dancing
colours.

The forests of Batchawana Bay are considered to be in the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence zone. The
northern deciduous-evergreen forests consist of a mixture of maple, birches, and oaks, with pine,
hemlock, cedar and other evergreens. We are on the edge of the Boreal forest - the evergreen forest
of spruce, balsam fir, tamarack and jack pine that covers most of Canada from Labrador to the
Rockies and up to the sub-arctic.
A spring-time walk in our local forests amidst knee high ferns, trilliums, may flowers and trout
lilies, inhaling the fresh woodsy scent that doesn't come out of store-bought candles or room
deodorizers, naturally refreshes the mind and soul. Nature's own aromatherapy!
More and more people have become aware of their natural surroundings and how important their
interaction with nature affects the global ecosystem. But also, we want you to reconnect with that
childlike wonder we all were born with, and experience our great Canadian outdoors.
Come fill your bowls with berries and your baskets with wild mushrooms. Fill your eyes with the
colour of wild flowers that carpet the woods and roadsides in spring and summer. Be dazzled by the
glorious autumn show of leaves that are just outside your room's door.
Grab your binoculars, your nature guides and don't forget your camera because we've got memorable
experiences down every woodland trail or beachside vista!
